Consultations

Growing up on a farm and in a family that raised all their food, Mary has gardened all her life.  Her earliest memories are of weeding the vegetable garden and playing in her mother's extensive perennial and shrub beds.

After a starter career in restaurant management, she went back to school to obtain degrees in Horticulture and Landscape Design and her Arborist Certification.  While working toward these degrees, she worked in landscape maintenance, in a number of design jobs, as greenhouse manager, and even as producer for a call in radio show on gardening.

She operated her own design/ build company for several years, but then gave it up to work as Manager of Gardens and Grounds for the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, Virginia.   Working there for nine years, she learned even more about Roses, Vegetables, Fruit, Ornamentals, Water Gardening, Meadows, Native plants, and gardening for and in spite of wildlife.

It is Mary's goal that all people learn to garden to enrich their own lives.  But so many people are not quite sure what to do with their home landscapes.  So with so much experience and background, she started providing consultations to help wtih simple designs or maintenance questions.
Raul spent the first half of his life working in the orchards and farms of Washington State. While a teenager working for Bailey Nursery, he was trained to graft a wide range of ornamental landscape plants. He then transferred this knowledge to fruit trees and at twenty he started his own company, spending the next eighteen years growing fruit trees and grafting for orchards and farmers throughout the United States.

He has seen how fruit is grown in all regions of the United States and has seen what works and what doesn't, no matter what climate you live in.

If you have a question about your site or growing fruit and he's your man.

For a fee of $50.00 per hour for their expertise, Raul and Mary are happy to come to your home and answer your questions to help you with your own gardening and growing endeavors.

Contact Mary at 434-953-6661, or at [email protected] to set up an appointment for either of them.
